Our Clinical Team will fix the CAUSE of your Subluxation.

What is a subluxation and how it robs years from you? In this section of our website, we will answer both these questions. But before we start, let’s take a deeper look at the word subluxation. The word Sub means “less than” while Lux says “dislocation.” Hence joining them together would form the word subluxation, meaning a partial dislocation. In the world of Chiropractic, subluxations are what we refer to when a vertebra is out of its normal position, with respect to the vertebra above and below. Dr. Daniel David Palmer; the founder of Chiropractic, coined the term subluxation.

The term subluxation has been in use for well over a century. It has come to mean different things for most that hear or uses this term. However, the most accepted definition is D. D. Palmer’s description 130 years ago in Davenport, Iowa. We have provided the main explanatory points of a subluxation based on the founder of Chiropractic (Dr. Palmer) below:

  • Subluxations are minor misalignments of spinal bones
  • These misalignments can compress nerves (pinch nerve roots as they exit the spine)
  • Pinched nerve leads to nerve irritation and eventual nerve malfunction
  • A malfunctional nerve leads to dysfunction of the end-organ(s) controlled by that nerve
  • Malfunction of the end-organ (tissue or organ controlled by the pinched nerve) is a loss of health

Subluxation

Subluxations are all too familiar; some are mild while others can cause severe pain and even disability.

The idea that D. D. Palmer had was to have these subluxations checked and corrected before they became a major health problem. He preached his methods of wellbeing for decades and his son; B.J. Palmer followed his footsteps. Chiropractors have always advocated care before things get out-of- hand. For over a century, we have called on the layperson as well as the medical community informing them of the hazardous health issues that involve a nerve.

Nerves control all functions in our body. Therefore, every cell is controlled by a nerve, and another nerve further monitors that nerve’s actions. Thus, so forming complex networks of checks and balances that enable function. Would it not then make sense to have your nerves and spine checked at least couple of times every year? It is recommended to have your teeth checked every six months. But, yet your teeth are easily replaced. It is our recommendation that you should get a Chiropractic assessment followed by a Chiropractic Adjustments when subluxations are detected. The Chiropractic Treatment you get in our centers is better as they are highly targeted. Best of oa all, the treatments you get from our Doctors of Chiropractic is painfree.

Dentists today recommend full mouth teeth implant. Full mouth implants are said to look and function better. Also, they say it is easier to maintain. If a replaceable part needs checking a couple of times each year, what would you say about an organ (part) that can’t be implanted or replaced?

You ONLY get one spine, and that should last you all your life.

We are living longer, and as such, we need to take better care of our spine. More have hit the century mark than ever before, and this trend is yet to continue. It is not just the fact that we are living longer, but more importantly, our modern lifestyle is placing an enormous amount of stresses on our spine. Longer life expectancy and increased mechanical, environmental and chemical stresses will certainly lead to subluxations. What is worse is that subluxations are occurring much earlier than ever before.

Modern gadgets and workspaces that force employees to sit for the extended amount of time are more stressful than our bodies can tolerate. Prolonged sitting is the cause of a variety of health issues, including spine related disorder. Sitting is now considered to be as harmful as smoking. Some sit from the moment they awaken, until bedtime. All that sitting has led to degenerative spinal changes with far-reaching implications.

Today, our centers are seeing younger people with conditions once seen in the middle-aged or the elderly. The slipped disc has become a common condition in teenagers. It is common because subluxation occurs at a more frequent pace.

However, the problem is not just subluxation alone, but rather the pain medication or muscle relaxers. A few decades ago, pain medication was not readily available as it is now. Nowadays, a child can walk into a 7-eleven and purchase Panadol. It is the new normal. Today, we prefer drugs over fixing a subluxation. When mild neck pain or back pain hits, we run to the refrigerator or the nearest drugstore for a popular painkiller. Most forget the painkillers are killers indeed. Our advice is to fix your subluxation before it becomes a disability or worse because a subluxation can rob years from you!

A minor subluxation may sound innocent, but don’t get fooled. A minor heart attack is not a small issue, and neither is a minor subluxation. Did you know that some nerves that control the function of your heart emerge from the neck and upper back? Nerves control the human heart. To be exact, the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) regulates the functions of not just the heart, but of every organ in the body.

The Autonomic Nervous System is part of our peripheral nervous system; collectively they control every cell in our body. The Autonomic Nervous System is the part that controls our body at the subconscious level. In other words, it is on autopilot. Autonomic Nervous System has two main components:

  1. Parasympathetic
  2. Sympathetic
Parasympathetic Nervous System

Parasympathetic nervous system is the portion of Autonomic Nervous System that controls our involuntary actions. This is the very system that takes care of your body when you are deep asleep. Thus, so regulating your body function continuously at an unconscious level. Our parasympathetic nerves (Parasympathetic Nervous Systems) has the sole responsibility for many the life-sustaining activates or actions. Activates such as digestion, eating, heart rate, blood pressure, urinating, defecation and sexual arousal and activity.

The parasympathetic nerve fibers originate from our central nervous systems. Specifically the Cranial Nerves (nerves that directly descend from the brain) and of course spinal nerves from the tailbone (sacrum). The Sacral nerves from S2-S4 known as the pelvic splanchnic nerves are the spinal components of the parasympathetic nerves.

The splanchnic nerves (arise from tailbone (Sacrum): S-2, S-3, and S-4) controls functions of the pelvic organs as well as our sexual organs.  In other words, nerves from your tailbone control motility in the colon, expelling of waste from the rectum, emptying your bladder, erectile function of the male sexual organ as well as regulation of the cervix in the females. Thus, so it becomes plain how a misaligned spinal bone can impact not only the pain you feel but also the possible:

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Bowel and bladder insufficiency
  • Infertile
  • Constipation
  • Intestinal bloating
  • Bedwetting in Children
As evident, a subluxation can lead to health issues with life altering implications.

For example, your low back pain may be the reason for your constipation, frequent urination, impotence and even infertility. And that is just for starters. We have had numerous cases of slipped disc patients where improvements in the slipped disc translated into the improvement in sexual function, bowels and bladder regulations, as well as menstrual cramps. So, Subluxation does impact the quality of life. In a few moments, we will cover how a subluxation affects the quality of your life.

To conclude, the parasympathetic system is known as the “craniosacral outflow.”  This nomenclature is used mainly because of the locational relevance as the parasympathetic nervous system includes neuronal fibers from cranial nerves and from nerve fibers that exit the tailbone (sacrum. Hence, the craniosacral outflow association.

On the other hand, the sympathetic nervous system is the “thoracolumbar outflow.” The Sympathetic Nervous system originates from T1 to L3. In other words, the cell bodies arise from the uppermost portion of your upper back all the way down to the mid part of the low back just above the belt line.

Thus, so the exiting nerves from your upper back, mid-back and low back are not just condoling the muscle of your spine, but more importantly, they give rise to efferent nerves for motor nerve control. These are the nerves that carry the commands of the brain. For example, every time your heart beats, it is because of the command the heart muscle received from the brain, and our efferent nerve fibers carry these commands. Therefore, a subluxation can lead to a life-threatening condition, including heart, lung, kidney and liver malfunctions. Thus, the urgent need to fix a subluxation: minor misalignment of the spinal bone.

From a clinical point of view, a subluxation is the cause of numerous health issues.

But, yet many physicians and even some specialists ignore this established fact. The role of the human nervous system was understood long ago. We know how it functions and potential disastrous issues that arise when it malfunctions. So, why do many of them have issues when we chiropractors speak of the ill effects of a subluxation. Is it because the first person that associated a subluxation as the cause of disease and malfunction was a chiropractor. Would they have believed and preached it out more had it come from one of them? But we not here to debate on the fact that health issues do indeed arise from a subluxation.

We are here to see how a subluxation comes into play. In other words, what are the root causes of a subluxation? Well, we have mentioned that a subluxation is a minor misalignment of bones. When bones of the spine move out of their normal position, the mal-positioned segment is called a subluxated segment.  The profession of Chiropractic has taken the lead in correcting this mal-positioning. As noble as this is, many in Chiropractors have failed to grasp what a subluxation is. These are the group we loosely refer to as the “Subluxation Freaks.” Yes, we spare no one. Chiropractors are also blameworthy, just as much as the allopaths. One is playing the arrogant card while the other is being ignorant.

The arrogant is the one who knows that the central and peripheral nervous systems regulate and control every aspect of our existence, but yet ignore the implications of a pinched spinal nerve.

The ignorant is the poor fellow who believes that a pinched nerve can have direct consequences but yet cannot explain the root cause. For the ignorant, a subluxation is a misaligned vertebra and thus, so he keeps popping it into place without rhyme or reason. In other words, it is out, let me put it back in and thus, sounding and acting ignorant.

Chiropractic is not about popping your bones into place! It is not about adjustments! It is not about Gonstead, Diversified or Activator.  But, it is about finding the cause and fixing the problem. That is the true definition of Chiropractic. Anything less is the foolish attempts of the ignorant. Chiropractic is not about us versus them. Or about natural versus allopaths (medical doctors). It is about fixing the cause, so our patients can get back to a healthy active lifestyle. Chiropractic is about helping those in need.

Chiropractic Specialty Centers was launched to help those in pain. Our goals are to find and correct spinal and joint related issues at its source. We accomplish this through our meticulous systems of evaluations and root-cause-analysis methods that help us understand your condition. Once we have effectively identified the actual cause, we will plan out a treatment program along with therapeutic measures to repair subluxations. We do all this without even popping your bones. In fact, there are conditions that the popping of bones can result in more serious conditions. This is why we look at cause and only then proceed with corrective care.

In short, our methods of treatments are not to just realign your mal-positioned spinal bone. We correct the cause. Let’s take a look at an example patient below:

PRESENTING COMPLAINT:

Constant moderate low back pain that radiates to the buttocks and legs. In the case above, it would be fair to say he suffers from a low back subluxation. In fact, it can be the working diagnosis. Yes, it can if you lived when D.D. Plamer was alive. In other words, that determination would hold up and may even be advanced if you lived 130 years ago. However, by our modern standard, it falls short. It may even be laughable.  As the patient may, in fact, be suffering from a slipped disc that could have resulted from degenerative changes. And to correct the cause, further diagnostic and evaluative measure needs to be taken.

For example, an MRI of the spine might shed light on the health of spinal disc. The MRI may even show the exact segment where a subluxation caused the nerve impingement. In other words, we find the cause and only then can we have a hope of repairing the malfunction. The clinical team of Chiropractic Specialty Centers has the knowledge, skills and the ability to diagnose and identify the cause of spine or joint issues through our systematic method of evaluations. We do not chase subluxations or keep having you return, time and again for “popping” your spine.

We find the cause, and then our clinical teams of Chiropractors and physiotherapists get busy fixing your subluxations at the roots. Our methods of collaborative care can repair the root cause, enabling you to Reclaim Your Life Back. Visit one of our centers today and discover a life without subluxation today.
