Knee pain is widespread. About 20% of the given population suffers from knee-related disorders and illnesses. The relatively high numbers of knee pain sufferers indicate inefficient knee treatment programs and neglect of minor knee issues by sufferers. This article provides an in-depth look into various knee treatment programs, including physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and surgical procedures. We do this to offer you an overview of your options to make an informed decision about your knee treatment.

What Are The Common Forms Of Knee Treatment In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Knee pain and knee injury are treated in hospitals, polyclinics, physiotherapy centers, chiropractic centers, acupuncture centers, and a few others. The success rate of the therapy is dependent on the practitioners’ skills, knowledge, and abilities. Also, some offer combined invasive procedures (injections or surgery), while others provide conservative treatments.

Invasive knee treatment procedures include:

How Effective Are Steroid Injection For Knee Pain?

Steroid injections are ineffective for any joint, let alone for weight-bearing joints such as the knee or hips. Patients who opt for a steroid injection can look forward to speedier degeneration, fractures, disabilities, and numerous surgical interventions. So if you have knee pain and thinking about getting steroid injections, think again! The jab will do you more harm than good. A multi-doctor report in the Journal of Radiology published findings of 459 patients treated through corticosteroid injections in their hip and knee joints. The authors published four dangerous side effects:

  • Acceleration of the arthritic changes (osteoarthritis or bone spurs) in the injected joints
  • Increased risks of joint and bone fractures at sites close to injected steroids
  • Rapid and severe degenerative changes of joints injected with steroids.
  • Death and destruction of cartilage and bone

How Effective Is The Arthroscopic Knee Surgery?

For decades, knee surgeons have pushed arthroscopic knee surgery on unsuspecting patients. Some claim that it was a highly successful and minimally invasive knee procedure given on an outpatient basis. In other words, they made it look and sound so good! It was the next best thing since sliced bread, or so they hoped.

America did the first arthroscopic knee surgery in 1919. In the United States alone, a total of 750,000 arthroscopic surgeries are performed yearly. The average cost of arthroscopic knee surgery in the U.S. is USD 19,000. If we take 750,000 patients and multiply it by 19,000 we get USD 14,250,000,000. That is over 14 billion dollars.

2013, a published research article debunked the infamous arthroscopic surgery as not better than a sham or fake surgery. Read The New England Journal of Medicine article here before you even think about getting arthroscopic knee surgery.

What Is The Best Method Of Knee Treatment Without Surgery?

By now, it should be obvious that injections and arthroscopic knee surgery are harmful more than helpful. The big question remains! What should you do for your knee pain? If you want the most effective and least complicated form of knee treatment without surgery, targeted chiropractic is combined with focused physiotherapy.

Chiropractic combined with physiotherapy is better and more holistic than any other form of knee treatment. If you want the best knee pain treatment, call our center at 03 2093 1000. Please speak with us about your condition and let our clinical teams help your recovery without surgery or injections. We have several locations throughout the Klang valley.

Not too long ago, when I was a guest on the Bernama TV’s Today Show, the host of the show asked me about our knee treatment without surgery.

He had several questions that he put to me both on-air and off-air. The one issue that has kept repeating in my mind since: “Is chiropractic treatment for the knee as effective as medication or surgery?” The host asked, is it appropriate to see a chiropractor? My answer: It depends on the situation, and there are many occasions where chiropractic treatment can be of significant help. After the show was over, I quickly realized that I forgot to mention that chiropractors are not created equal!

Moreover, I neglected to state that our methods of chiropractic care for knee pain patients are very different compared to competing centers. For one thing, our knee treatment program is interdisciplinary. In other words, patients get chiropractic combined with physiotherapy in each session. Secondly, we use our knee treatment protocols. Finally, our knee therapy program includes specialized chiropractic treatments that others do not offer in Malaysia.

The one thing that I still can’t get over is how quickly time passes during an interview. The issue of chiropractic care for the spine and joints is so broad that it’s hard to fit into any single show. In addition, because of time limitations on live television or radio, it is hard to cover the entire subject matter regarding knee problems, knee diagnosis, and non-operative knee treatment. Because of that, I have decided to share additional information about physiotherapy combined with the best chiropractic treatment of joints and sports injuries.

While Chiropractors Treat Lots Of Spine & Joint Conditions, There Are Differences

Chiropractic is just like any other profession, especially when it comes to knee treatment. In other words, there are good ones, bad ones, and great ones. As long as one avoids the bad ones, your knee treatment should work very well for knee problems. It should work better than medication or surgery. However, there are certain knee conditions that an average chiropractic center will not help. One such condition is meniscal tears. Ligamentous injuries are also difficult to get treated by the average chiropractic or physiotherapy center. If you have meniscal or ligamentous damage, you will need an experienced chiropractor. Preferably one that has a successful track record of knee pain treatment.

Therefore, finding a great chiropractor is your first step. However, If you live in the Klang Valley, visit one of our seven centers. Chiropractic Specialty Cetner® has some of the best chiropractors in Malaysia. If you live in a distant location and can make it to one of our centers, use our guide on the secrets of finding a good chiropractor. The article mentions several tell-tale signs of a good chiropractor.

The doctor of chiropractic at Chiropractic Specialty Center® use very specific treatment protocols that competing centers do not use

We know this because our offices’ knee treatment protocols were developed and perfected by our clinical director. It took him years of research to improve it. Our centers incorporate principles of clinical physiotherapy, targeted rehabilitation, focused osseous manipulations, soft tissue work, and research-based chiropractic adjustments (treatment) coupled with advanced biomechanical stability exercise programs. Our method of knee care improved patients even when the surgeons gave up! Through our knee treatment methods, we have been able to help even those who had multiple knee surgeries. Best of all, we have accomplished the same results over and over, time and again.

To gain a better understanding of when to see a chiropractor and when to see an orthopedist for your knee pain, please read on. This article will give you a good idea of approaching your knee problem, what steps to take to get the proper care, and what you can expect from our target specific conservative rehabilitative treatment or knee surgery.

The most important thing that you need to know is that the latest research that has just come out of Europe has revealed what some surgeons do not want their patients to know:

“Arthroscopic knee surgery is not effective; in fact, a fake surgical procedure for your knee works better!”

What your surgeon doesn‘t want to tell you, we will! We will even give you a link (below) where you can go and download this new England journal of Medicine article right now by using our site’s search button and search for “ARTHROSCOPIC KNEE SURGERY.”

For the life of me, I do not know why I forgot to mention this published article while living on Bernama’s “Today Show.” With that regret, I have forced myself to take the time and write and make this article. I want everyone out there to know that there is an alternative to surgery. You don’t have to have surgery just because someone said so! Surgery is not your only option. Reputable medical research published by a host of European professor doctors actively calls for an end to arthroscopic knee surgery. Instead, experts are recommending non-surgical knee treatment!

What To Do In Case Of A Knee Injury?

There are far too many types of knee problems and injuries, and for us to cover them all is an impossible task. To save time and avoid boring you to death, I would like to concentrate on the few occasions where you may need a surgeon over me or someone like me (one of the chiropractors from a Chiropractic Specialty Center®). In other words, in instances where you fracture your knee, you’ll have to skip our methods of care altogether— injuries that require you to go to the nearest hospital. For most knee injuries that do not have a fractured bone, our knee treatment is best!

Injuries such as severely torn ligaments (100%), dislocations, and fractures will require surgical interventions. If you are unlucky enough to get one of these, there is nothing that we or any other chiropractor can do for you, at least not before you have surgery. We can do excellent post-surgical rehab and knee treatment at an unparalleled level, but first, you’ll have to see your orthopedic surgeon.

A Torn Ligament?

A torn ligament is a common condition that occurs in athletes. Sports injuries involving the knees will almost always include some degree of ligamentous injury. However, you do not need surgery just because you have a torn ligament. I usually recommend surgery for ligamentous injuries 100%, meaning that the entire ligament is fully torn. There are some occasions where a partial ligamentous injury requires surgical intervention. Knee surgery for partial tears should be reserved if the non-invasive knee treatment fails.

What To Do For A Knee Dislocation?

You don‘t have to be an athlete to injure your knee. In fact, most knee injuries occur outside of sports. Athletes have developed stronger muscles and soft tissues, resulting in more stable knees. On the other hand, the average person has weaker soft tissues and muscles, and a simple twist or a gentle fall could result in damage. Like, getting your heel caught in the grill cracks on the sidewalk:

  • Your foot gets stuck; your body continues to move, injuring ligaments and soft tissues to a degree where your knee “pops” as it dislocates. Youch!

A classic sign of dislocation is instability if you feel your knee is buckling under you or if you may have a dislocated knee if the knees repeatedly give away. If you have suffered this fate, you will need a surgeon to reattach the ligaments. After the surgery, we can initiate your rehab with targeted knee treatment to get you as close to the 100% mark as possible. You will have to understand that once a knee is injured, it will never function at 100% again. We are the best chiropractic and physiotherapy center in Malaysia! Call us now. And if anyone promises you 100% healing, they are lying. It is just that simple.

What To Do For A Knee Fracture?

Another scenario where you will need an orthopedic surgeon instead of us is if you fracture your knee. A painful condition. This is where you will need some nice people to come to pick you up and take you directly to an emergency room. We come into the picture when you are out of the hospital and need some rehabilitation. We will get you ready for the dance. So, once the fractured bone is healed, we can initiate our knee treatment for greater stability.

What Is The Best Knee Treatment Without Surgery For A Torn Meniscus?

torn meniscus in a flexed knee A torn meniscus is treatable. Our knee treatment program can help your body recover from a torn meniscus without injections or surgery. Here is where most knee patients get confused. The surgeon wants to cut you! He or she may recommend the so-called “bread and butter knee procedure.” Each year millions of people are subjected to this useless surgical procedure. Never mind that research has established its uselessness. Never mind that it may cause more damage and harm to the patient.

The biggest puzzle for me is:

WHY ARE THEY STILL DOING THIS ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY WHEN RESEARCH HAS PROVEN IT TO BE NOTHING LESS THAN A MISERABLE FAILURE!

A torn meniscus is the type of knee injury treated best conservatively. Never mind what the “Surgeon” wants, listen, and read the published Finnish Research released in the New England Journal of Medicine. A torn meniscus is one of the three most common conditions we provide knee treatment for in our clinics. This is where we use our proprietary systems of knee therapy that we call “The Knee Protocol.” It is the ultimate and most efficient method of non-operative care that you can get, to put it humbly. Just that simple!!

The excellent thing for those that have a meniscal disorder is that, no matter how severe the tear is or how bad the pain is, our particular proprietary method of conservative treatment can work to stabilize and relieve meniscal pain and problems.

I can conclusively tell you that our procedures will give you modest to massive relief. Sometimes the results are immediate! Not ONLY will our systems of care make you feel better, but it will also prevent the tear from getting worse, too, giving—your knee joint some breathing room. Besides, medical research had shown meniscus healing through non-operative clinical knee treatment on an outpatient basis. Our center offers the best knee treatment without surgery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“A good analogy towards understanding meniscal wear, tear & injury is to think of a pencil eraser that you pick at, and it tears. You’ve never done that? Oh, you should try it—very educational.”

What Is A Meniscus & How It Causes Knee Pain?

Perhaps this is where we should have started. If you have a meniscal problem, you are all too familiar with knee pain. And as such, you may not need a description of what a meniscus is before we elaborate on knee treatment specific to meniscus damage. Just in case you do, and for those not familiar with a meniscus, please read on.

A meniscus is a semi-circular cartilaginous disk that separates the thigh bone from the leg bone. A meniscus‘s primary function is to provide the cushion (shock absorber) and support. Your knee needs two healthy, stable, and functioning menisci: The medial meniscus and the lateral meniscus.

A healthy meniscus is spongy but tough, a characteristic rendered to it by its cartilaginous features. This means that a meniscus, just like other cartilaginous parts of your body, will wear out. Once worn (degenerated), it can lead to tears and significant knee pain. Conservative chiropractic care through Chiropractic Specialty Center’s Knee Treatment can help even a torn and degenerated meniscus. Call or visit a center near you today. We can help even if you have severely degenerated knees.

Why Do Meniscal Tears Develop? How Does The Knee Joint Wear Out?

Why does the knee wear out? One theory is that all things will become worn, and nothing lasts forever. Everything wears down with age.

A better theory is that the surrounding muscles and soft tissues of the knee get too tight.

Your hamstrings, quadriceps, and calves all play a critical role in the health and maintenance of your knee joint. If these structures malfunction, expect problems with the knees and your spine. As the muscles tighten, they induce a pulling effect, narrowing the joint space. You have to keep in mind that the menisci are between your thigh bone and leg bone, and when the muscles of your thigh and leg get tight, it compresses the cartilage between these two bones.

Twisting & Bending At The Knees Cause Damage To The Meniscus

Now take this tightening effect of muscles and add to it the daily twists and turns you impose on your knees. Think about this carefully; compress and twist, compress, bend, and twist. A good analogy is to think of an Oreo cookie…think about pressing the Oreo together (squeeze it), now think about twisting the Oreo, and finally, think of pressing and twisting the Oreo at the same time. That is what is happening to your knees. The long-term effect will wear out your knees—the more intense the effects, the faster the wear and tear. Therefore, to avoid progression, you need knee treatment that addresses the root causes of knee pain.

A meniscal tear ranges from very mild to severe, each having an assigned grade accordingly. In our centers, we use the internationally recognized grading system of 1-3. A grade 1 tear represents a mild crack, while a grade 2 denotes moderate, and a severe is grade 3.

Can A Torn Knee Meniscus Lead To Knee Pain?

The most common symptom of a torn meniscus is ” knee pain.” The severity of pain is often related to the seriousness of the damage, and the effects that tear has on other structures. You see, when you tear your meniscus, other structures are also affected. It is particularly the case for the tibia (the long bone in the leg)—knee patients with meniscus damage or issue present with knee pain along the inside of the knees. Knee treatment for such patients must include holistic measures that realign the tibia and improves the surrounding knee joint’s ligaments.

The tibia is the long bone below your knee. It is the bone that the meniscus that is firmly attached. You cannot have a problem with one without the other. It is a simple truth that everyone has ignored. Not us at the Chiropractic Specialty Center®. We pay undivided attention to the meniscus and all its attachments, especially the tibia. I have been in practice now for almost 25 years, and during this entire time, I have yet to see a meniscal tear without tibial involvement. And that is why our treatments focus on the meniscus and the knee joint’s surrounding soft tissues.

I have mentioned the tibia here because there are times when a patient has presented with a mild tear but complained of severe and agonizing pain. And on the other hand, I have seen plenty of patients present with moderate or severe tears and have had minimal pain. This is an undeniable fact; the tear’s size will not always determine the severity of your pain.

Your Mnisceus Is An Important Indicator Of The Overall Health Of Your Knee

In other words, for the average person, a meniscal tear results from extended wear and tear—a condition where one has ignored other simpler knee problems. The meniscus is hard to damage unless you already have some pre-existing knee disorder. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. For example, an athlete severely injures an otherwise healthy knee with one busting move. Regardless of the cause or severity of the damage, our knee treatment can help recovery from a meniscal injury. We recommend our focused knee therapy programs as soon as possible. Neglecting an injured meniscus or ligament leads to an arthritic knee.

Aside from pain, there are other telltale signs of a meniscal injury. Symptoms such as an inability to fully extend the knee feel better to keep the knee bent rather than straight or fully extended. Many who have had meniscal tears often complain of an inability to put their weight on their leg fully. Some may even hear a clicking sound. Although there are other reasons for this, you may have a meniscal tear if there are clicking or popping sounds and knee pain.

How To Treat A Meniscal Tear Without Surgery?

As I have said many times already. Do not opt for meniscal surgery! Take the word of several prominent professor doctors that are expert orthopedic surgeons. They have collectively come out against the meniscal surgical procedure in their published works. Yes, your surgeon may say many positive things about the procedure; the simple fact is that research has proven him wrong!

Non-invasive, non-surgical care that is conservative is best. Chiropractic Specialty Center® is so much more than just chiropractic. We offer targeted knee therapy through chiropractic, physiotherapy, rehabilitation for pre or post-surgical knee exercises or rehabilitation, NSD Therapy® (Best care for slipped disc), and much more in our centers. Their combined efforts are much better than any single method. Best of all, our technology and methods make us shine. This is why our knee treatment gets better results than the competing centers.

A Common Question We Get From Our Patients Is If They Can Continue With Their Regular Activities After During Their Knee Treatment

It’s as straightforward as this: If pain prevents you from doing simple tasks or everyday movements are accompanied by pain, I suggest you stop those activities until you have had a chance to repair the damage. If you are not yet a patient, at the very least, stop until we have had a chance to evaluate you. Pushing your body can lead to more damage.

The simple truth is that if your body gives you pain singles, listen to it—pain is a warning sign. Ignore them at your risk! In most cases, patients even report a feeling of discomfort or pressure behind the knee, in front of the knee, and even under the kneecap.

Those of you who want to know what you can do at home—right now, to decrease your pain: ice. Like the song: “ice-ice baby come-on”! Ice your knee joint. Ice it because meniscal tears cause pain and swelling. Icing the knee is part of our at-home knee treatment program.

Symptoms and swelling are there because a meniscal tear involves other sensitive knee structures. Ice will help with all your problems! Your doctor may not tell you about this because he wants you to buy medication or go through surgery! Some may even suggest a heating pack.

A heating pack is a great way of making your knee worse—at the speed of light!

Torn Meniscus & Conservative Knee Treatment

By now, you probably have started to see a theme in this article. That’s because the principles of knee care and knee treatment are the same. The only thing that changes is how your strengthening and rehabilitation programs.

Additionally, treatment centers, for the most part, have similar therapy devices when it comes to knee treatments. Proper application and setting of a therapy device are essential to successful therapy outcomes. Far too many centers have poorly trained physiotherapy staff with limited knowledge or skills. We have noticed this shortcoming in some physiotherapists, and as such, we have in-depth training and regular educational programs to ensure the care you get is through experts in the field.

Are The Differencesces Between Conservative Knee Treatments In Malaysia?

Just having conservative knee treatment doesn’t mean you will heal. Many non-medical therapists randomly use these words. Unfortunately, to some, these are just words. Some cannot back these words with actions. So to blankly recommend conservative therapy may not be correct. Conservative care is the best, but it must be good. Many centers advertise traditional methods of care for the spine and joints. Most have little knowledge, skills, or technology. Some offer a “rubba-dup-dup” –massaging tissues they can’t even name or push here and there and call it therapy. Some may claim to have TCM (traditional and complementary medicine) when, in fact, they are as far from traditional as they are medical. Please heed my advice and do not fall victim to these folks.

The wildest thing that I have ever heard came from a well-educated individual who fell victim to one of these profiteers. He was encouraged to walk like a “guerrilla”! This so-called expert mentioned that “guerrillas” do not get knee or back pain because of how they walk. In short, conservative knee treatment in Malaysia or TCM can vary. Some are good, while others have no business in the field of spine and joint.

Chiropractic Specialty Center® is great for spine, joint & sports injury treatments—after all, it is our slogan!

But, if you are too far or cannot make it to one of our centers, do your homework before choosing a place.

First and foremost, you’ve got to make sure that the conservative care you get is from a clinical team with knowledge, skills, and technology. Meniscal tears and knee disorders are no joke! It needs specialized therapy and treatment protocols to prevent it from worsening. Ask those that have had knee replacement surgical procedures, and they will tell you not to ignore your PAIN!
